the resort of les arcs has three main villages, Arc 1600, Arc 1800 and Arc 2000.
we are located at Arc 1800, which is the largest and liveliest of the mountain
villages. it is home to the majority of the shops, restaurants and nightlife. 1800 is also
the central joining point of the ski area, inter-linking with lifts in all directions
offering good access to the slopes by its location at the foot of the aiguille grive (2732m).
the architecture of Arc 1800 is internationally acclaimed; inspired by le corbusier,
the philosophy behind the architecture was heavily influenced by charlotte perriand who devoted
10 years of her life to ensure that Arc 1800 would not be the brutal concrete jungle
synonymous with other purpose built resorts of the 1970's. in the summer, the melted
snow reveals a beautiful 18 hole golf course amongst the pine tress, only a short walk from
the apartment.

les arcs is a lovely resort, but don't just take our word for it. james was a bar manager in
les arcs for the season of 2002/2003. he says:
i couldn't wait to do a ski season in the alps and i couldn't have hoped to do it in a
better resort. i was still a bit of a novice at the start of the season but les arcs
had all the facilities to rapidly improve my snowboarding, from wonderful tree-lined, sweeping
red runs down to villandry to some awesome off piste coming down off the aiguille rouge.
les arcs has a bit of everything. now it is linked to la plagne, it will
provide a huge ski area that is second to none in europe. there is a snow
park with some tasty jumps for the budding freestylers, a flying kilometer for the speed
freaks and in 02/03 they hosted some excellent events for you to spectate.
as you will be self catering - you may need the facilities
on offer in the way of supermarkets. the best, i would say, is the 'sherpa' in the villards area of 1800.
they even have meals you can buy from the counter to serve up when you get back to the apartment.
that will provoke a bit of a walk to charvet, where you could opt for the closer 'spar'
supermarket, which isn't quite as well stocked but does the basics well.
clothes shops are excellent in
les arcs 1800 - something i was suprised by and the prices are pretty good too.
top brands like carhartt and quiksilver are commmon place. charvet is best for these.
also, don't forget that bourg st maurice is only a short funicular ride (10 mins from Arc 1600) down the mountain where there are more
ski and board shops and plenty of other facilities including a mcdonalds and the isere river that hosted the
canoe world championships in 2002.
all this is making me sentimental - i want to be back there now! any more info you would like on the resort,
feel free to drop me an email - james@motonetic.com and i'll maybe see you there!
